Designing Resilience:
A Community’s Journey of Rebuilding after the 2018 Lombok Earthquake
Exhibition Context at Jakarta Architecture Festival 2025
Rebuilding the mosque became an embodiment of resilience after the 2018 Lombok earthquake. More than a place of worship, it restores its role as a community center for social, educational, and charitable activities, fostering a renewed sense of belonging.
Within the theme Reimagining Space, the project reflects how architecture can be a collective act of recovery. The design process, shaped through participatory planning and community engagement, brought together local values and craftsmanship.
Inspired by Lombok's traditional houses, the timber structure was developed with local experts through studies of material selection, connection systems, and maintenance methods — creating not only an earthquake-resistant building but a living symbol of shared resilience.
