Topping Off Jakarta Premium Outlets:

Elevating Shopping Experience through “Wave to Summit”

Jakarta Premium Outlets, developed by Simon Genting Private Limited in Alam Sutera, recently celebrated its Topping Off Ceremony on Wednesday (24/7/2024). The Jakarta Premium Outlets is slated for completion in early 2025 and is entering its final construction phase. Once completed, this shopping center is anticipated to emerge as a prominent new destination, featuring a diverse array of premium brands for perceptive shoppers.

"...Our role as Architects of Record focuses on integrating the best local practices to develop a design that captures the essence of the journey, providing a hybrid spatial experience that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing." This approach drives our efforts to ensure the developed detailed design aligns with the original design intent.

During the Topping Off Ceremony, Chico Danisworo, Libradi Dwiputranto, and William Chang represented PDW as the Architect of Record. Chico Danisworo delivered a presentation on the Jakarta Premium Outlets project, themed “Wave to Summit,” which draws inspiration from the transition between ocean waves and mountain summits. This concept is reflected in the architectural zoning, creating a seamless and unique experience that blends indoor and outdoor spaces. The presentation showcased the creative and technical processes involved in transforming the initial concept into a fully completed structure to meet international standards while maintaining a design suitable for the local context and climate.

Chico Danisworo, our Director of Design & Marketing, presented Jakarta Premium Outlet’ design.

Libradi Dwiputranto, our Technical Project Associate, highlighted that "Shopping has evolved from merely exchanging goods to embracing a journey through a space designed for enjoyment. Through thoughtful architectural detail design, we develop an environment that enhances this distinctive and memorable journey for visitors, ensuring it stands out from typical indoor malls."

He further added, "Our role as Architects of Record focuses on integrating the best local practices to develop a design that captures the essence of the journey, providing a hybrid spatial experience that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing". This approach drives our efforts to ensure the developed detailed design aligns with the original design intent.

Jakarta Premium Outlets, a shopping center with more than 90,000 square meters of retail space, is set to become Jakarta's leading shopping destination. Designed by Grimshaw as the Concept Architect and AO Architects as the Design Architect, the project will host stores offering luxury goods and a variety of dining options. To complement the retail experience, it will also feature amenities such as a children's play area, changing rooms, entertainment spaces, prayer rooms, and VIP lounges, all aimed at providing a comprehensive and anticipated shopping experience.

As the Architect of Record, PDW collaborated with various stakeholders from both Indonesia and abroad. Our responsibilities include preparing construction documents, generating detailed designs, and consistently monitoring the project's progress through periodic supervision.

Working closely with the Conceptual and Schematic Architects, we streamline effective project workflows, particularly in navigating building permits and addressing local context. By keeping the project aligned with plans and adhering to established quality standards, we ensured a seamless transition from the detailed design development phase to the construction stage.

One of the key milestones to streamline between design and construction execution is the visual mock-up work for the facade, encompassing aspects like building facades, corridors, retail shopfronts, roofs, and ceilings. We support on-site communication between the client and contractor to ensure that every detail aligns with project specifications and requirements, meeting all established standards.

As a local architecture firm, we collaborate closely with international clients and partners on projects in Indonesia, leveraging our extensive knowledge of the local climate, user behavior, building codes and regulations. By integrating local architectural standards, and recommending the best materials and practices, we ensure that the designs are contextually relevant and technically robust.
