Learn more about the 2009 Taman BMW Football Stadium – the first-place winning competition entry, now replaced by Jakarta International Stadium with a different brief.
As a new civic space and located on Taman BMW (Bersih Sehat Wibawa) and the future Taman Danau Sunter, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is designed to serve more than just a stadium and occassional big events. It also considered to be able to accommodate daily activities such as daily recreational sports and as an open public space.
The design incorporates passive design for energy efficiency. Natural light and fresh air is designed to enter the stadium, and to protect people from rain, maintaining comfort inside the stadium. Nearly all parts of the building benefit from natural ventilation and natural lighting during the day. Except for team amenities and VIP rooms, which are air-conditioned.
The facade pays tribute to the local culture pattern and aspires to resonate with passionate Jakarta football fans, as an integral part of their collective identity. These patterns are crafted into perforated steel panels that generate a complex play of lighting effects, especially during the night.
Through design JIS tries to able to blend as part of the city, and contribute back to the people.
