In this edition, we are taking you to explore more about our landscape and urban design principles, which work reciprocally with our architectural design. Yes, we are talking about the open spaces.

Whether it is a space between buildings, publicly accessible open space within private development, or public park and plaza, we thrive to design it with the same standard of excellence as we do our buildings. In PDW, we believe that designing a public space is more than enabling an ample social space or producing pretty spaces. It is all that, and more. Design is programmatic as much as it is aesthetic.

In This Issue

Sam Ratulangi Field (God Bless Park), Tondano, North Sulawesi
An open field that embodied Minahasa’s layered history, where European colonial planning meets local tradition. The revitalization aimed to improve infrastructure around Lake Tondano and simultaneously support local tourism.

Taman Kota, Kaimana, West Papua
Drawing inspiration from the local traditions and utilizing existing material as much as possible, Jokowi-Iriana Park and Jusuf Kalla Park aimed to strengthen its role as a gathering and cultural space.

One Satrio, Jakarta
The project introduced a mix of green open space and F&B areas—something unprecedented in Jakarta at the time of its opening. Open-air dining, jogging tracks, and a pet park transformed the space into more than just a commercial zone, while also becoming a neighborhood living room for nearby apartments and offices.

Reflecting from these projects, they are not only designed to accommodate public recreational space of self-expression and celebration of civic rights. These open spaces are one of the tools to ensure inclusion—physically, socially, and culturally. Each story reflects our ongoing commitment to finding relevance in design—responding to context, people, and the evolving needs of our built environment.
